Sinead McCarthy, Operations Manager at The Brehon, Killarney was honoured with a prestigious award from the Irish Hospitality Institute recently.

Sinead was awarded Hospitality Manager of the Year in the food and beverage category at the IHI Founders’ Banquet and Hospitality Awards which took place at The Clayton Hotel, Burlington Road Dublin last Thursday.

Sinead, a native of Drimoleague in West Cork, joined the team at The Brehon in 2014 as food and Beverage Manager and was promoted to Operations Manager in October 2015. She faced strong competition from other entrants from right across the country before qualifying as a finalist and ultimately winning her category. The panel of judges commended her hard work, leadership skills and her ability to implement strategies to achieve revenue growth.

The ceremony was attended by over 500 industry leaders as well as master of ceremonies Mr Michael Vaughan and Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, Patrick O’Donovan. These awards aim to recognise the personal contribution of individual hospitality professionals.

The judging process allows all IHI members to submit nominations across twelve award categories. A panel of IHI judges made up of senior industry figures shortlist the nominations, nominees then proceed to an interview stage where the judging panel base their final decision, the winner of each award was announced at last week’s gala event.

Speaking at the event, IHI President Martin Mangan said, “Tonight our industry is recognising the hard work, the dedication to personal professional development and the development of our industry as a great place to work, acknowledging the brightest and best and the future of our industry.”

The Gleneagle Group had a number of finalists shortlisted for the awards including Group HR Manager, Eilis Loughrey, General Manger at The Brehon, Brian Bowler and Sales and Marketing Manager at The Maritime Hotel, Elaine Dempsey.
